The results from Statistics New Zealand's survey of migrants clearly indicated the reasons why migrants chose New Zealand ahead of any other destination. This was mainly because of the relaxed pace of
lifestyle, better climate and green environment and a better future for their children. Other reasons why most skilled migrants liked New Zealand were employment opportunities, friendly people and safety from crime. More than 60 percent of respondents had no
difficulties finding a job and about 21 percent mentioned lack of New Zealand work experience as a reason why they found it hard to get a job.
Most respondents needed help getting a drivers license followed with needing help with the tax system and finding work. Aspects migrants disliked most include high taxes and the distance from family and home. Almost 90 percent of
migrants rated themselves as either very settled or settled in New Zealand.
Note: South African residents with valid driver's licenses do not have to sit a theorectrical or practical test anymore.
